Do you know that Trauma is a Greek word that means “wound”?

 
Trauma occurs when a person’s body, mind, and soul are wounded due to some unexpected and terrible event at any age. 
 
There are Big "T" traumas such as natural disasters, accidents, terrorist attacks, serious sicknesses, violent assaults, sexual assaults, witnessing the death of someone, or when you felt your life is in danger.
 
Trauma is not just limited to above mentioned big events. Less violent incidents such as living in an abusive relationship, experiencing bullying, separation, divorce, breakup, childhood negative experiences, etc. can also be traumatizing. They are called small "t" traumas. 

 

Research suggests that people who suffer from trauma once in their lifetime are more prone to get re-traumatized in comparison to those who never suffered from trauma.
 
Sadly, some people continued suffering from trauma for a long time. It keeps affecting their physical health, emotional health, perceptions about the world, and routines every day. Then it can be termed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A traumatic brain injury can also cause PTSD.
 
What are the symptoms of PTSD?
  • Unexplained physical pains (headache, migraine, chest pain, stomach pain)
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Dizziness
  • Irritability, frustration and anger outbursts
  • Nightmares or flashbacks
  • Hypervigilance
  • Depression or Anxiety related symptoms
  • Emotional numbness and Avoidance (of places, persons, activities or anything which reminds traumatic event)
  • Reckless or Self-destructive behavior
