Trauma Counselling and PTSD Counselling
What is the difference between Trauma and PTSD Counselling?
Trauma is a Greek word which means "wound". In the field of mental health, psychological Trauma Counselling means when a person’s psyche was wounded due to some unexpected and terrible event such as natural disaster, accident, terrorist attack, serious sickness, violent assault, sexual assault or death of a loved one. Someone can also get traumatized due to being second person or just witnessing the event. Trauma counselling is not limited to above mentioned exceptional events, any small incident can also traumatize the client depending on client’s sensitivity and resiliency. Research suggests that person who suffer from trauma once in their lifetime are more prone to get re-traumatized in comparison of those who never suffered from trauma.
The good news is, research also suggest that most of the humans have inherent capacity to deal with traumatic events all by themselves. Our brain is structured in this amazing manner that it automatically tries to deal with trauma related feelings and emotions and return to normal daily life. Most of the population is able to overcome their traumatic memories using their own coping mechanisms.
Sadly, some people continued suffering from the symptoms and flashback of the event for a long time. It keep affecting their physical health, emotional health, perceptions about the world and normal routines of the everyday life. Then it can be termed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD Counselling). Traumatic brain injury could also cause PTSD.

How I treat Trauma and PTSD?
Trauma and PTSD is one of the most complicated and challenging mental disorder for the client as well as for the therapist. Due to distinctive nature of each traumatic experience with different clients, I research and offer different therapeutic interventions with every client. Still EMDR, Trauma-focussed CBT, Art therapy, Stress management techniques, Relaxation techniques and Psychoeducation are central therapies of my treatment which I imply with the specific perspective of Trauma-informed Practices.
If client is suffering from any other disorder such as depression, anxiety, hyperactivity or addiction that needed to be addressed before PTSD. Depending on the severity of the comorbid issues treatment for both can also be commenced concurrently.
